BugMeNot Password Sharing Service Could Harm Your Membership Site

Warning To Membership Site Owners - BugMeNot Users Could Be Stealing Your Password Protected Content
If you run a membership site - or have valuable content that's kept hidden by a password - you need to take the following precaution to avoid having your private files stolen and distributed over the Internet.
You should go to http://www.BugMeNot.com right now and enter the domain name of your password protected membership site to see if anyone has listed the information necessary to gain access to your members area.
If you see any usernames and passwords listed that will allow others the chance to get inside your members area you should check your database and found out who the people are that are sharing their information and then immediately shut down their account and consider taking legal action against them if necessary.
If you are lucky enough to find out that no one has yet shared their private password and username on BugMeNot you still need to take action to prevent it from occurring.
In either case you should click on the "Contact" link located at the bottom of their home page and then click on the Radio Button that says: "I want you to block my site."
You will then be presented with another link that says "Use this form to have a site blocked."
When you click on the form link you will end up at http://www.bugmenot.com/report.php where you will have an optin box to enter the domain name you wish to have blocked.
After you fill in your domain name and click the "Next Step" button you end up on a page that gives you a random file name that you're supposed to upload to your server to prove that you actually own the site that you want to block from BugMeNot's free password sharing service.
When you click the "Verify" button BugMeNot will attempt to find the file that you've just uploaded and will tell you that your page is now found. If it fails to find it you will get an Error message. If BugMeNot is able to find your uploaded file you will get the following message:
"Finished
Your site has now been blocked from the bugmenot system. We reserve the right to unblock the site if this system has been abused in any manner.
Please note: if you operate subdomains such as members.site.com it is recommended you repeat this process for those sites also."
There are some membership site software programs (like MemberGate) that were designed to automatically alert owners that their members are sharing their login information with others.
